Dado por muerto al nacer, abandonado por su madre, mudo hasta los seis años y sin una casa estable a la que llamar hogar, Richard Pimentel (Ron Livingston) se las ingeniará para salir a flote y conseguir una beca en la Universidad, estudios que abandonará para alistarse en el ejercito. Tras resultar herido durante una emboscada en Vietnam, Richard perderá casi por completo el sentido auditivo. Mientras el mundo a su alrededor se aleja, una voz surge en su interior y Richard ve claro su destino: luchar por los derechos de todas aquellas voces que nunca han sido escuchadas.

Un drama inspirado en hechos reales, debut en el largometraje del director Steve Sawalich. La película toma como base la verídica e increíble historia de Richard Pimentel, orador vocacional y aclamado escritor, gracias al cual fue aprobado el acta por los derechos de los discapacitados en 1990 en Estados Unidos. El filme lo protagonizan Ron Livingston ("Trabajo basura", "Sexo en Nueva York"), en la piel de Richard Pimentel, siendo secundado por Michael Sheen ("The Queen", "Frost contra Nixon") y Melissa George ("30 días de oscuridad","Anatomía de Grey")
